Joseph asks…

Going on a 3-day cruise without 2 year old and 7 month old 🙁 Suggestions?!!?

My husband and I are going on a cruise in January for the first time. It is only from Friday at 3pm until Monday at 8am. My mom is coming to stay with our two boys, ages 2 years and 7 months (in Jan). I nurse my baby full time and will be pumping and leaving bottles with my mom. I am SO sad to leave them and need advice on how to prepare them, and how to help them understand why we’re gone. However, my husband and I need to get away together. We haven’t had a night alone by ourselves in over two years. Any suggestions?

The cruise is from Long Beach to Ensenada, Mexico so I’m not sure if we will get cell phone reception.

Tijuana answers:

The best way to prepare them is to start leaving them with your mom for a few hours at a time and then slowly break them into a day. Ask your mom to stay over night with them after a few weeks of her watching them for a few hours. Then after a time or two of her keeping them overnight talk to her about 1 1/2 days then so on. You dont wanna stress your kids out and worry them so you really gotta start breaking them in now. When they see that you always come back they are going to learn to take it alot better. And with your 7 year old, you should sit down and explain everything to him/her in a child’s language. Possibly offer a BIG reward for being a big helper with the little one. Let your 7 yr old know that the baby is going to be looking at him/her as their 3rd parent and the way he/she reacts will hurt the babys feelings or make it happy! It works! But either way, its still gonna be kind of hard on them….

Sharon asks…

In your travels, have you ever come across a place that was breathtaking?

A place that left you wishing you didn’t have to leave?
I don’t know how I’m supposed to choose from all of these fantastic answers! I know! Each and every one of you can come pick me up, take me to these places, so that I can decide which is the best! Good Plan????? Well, until that happens, I guess we’ll put it up for a vote. Well Done, Everyone!

Tijuana answers:

Ensenada, Mexico in Baja California.

Running on the beach, taco stands and La Bufadora not too far away. It’s amazing! I want to retire there.

Don’t drink the water because cruise ships dump stuff near the harbor, of course, but it’s so great there. I never wanted to leave!

John asks…

What is holding back the fish taco revolution?

Tijuana answers:

Good question! I used to go to Mexico every weekend- a resort called Bajamar, about 40 minutes north of Ensenada. There was a little hole-in-the-wall ‘town’ between Bajamar and Rosarita Beach called Cantimar, and every weekend this woman in a converted 7-Up truck would sell fish tacos for 25 cents. They were Soooooo good!
