Somes Tips to help you decide
1. Decide on a budget. Does your wallet allow for a night at Motel 6, a round-the-world tour, or something in between? Figure out how much you have to spend beforehand, and perhaps count on some wedding-gift money to add to your stake.
2. Discuss your idea of the perfect vacation. Who likes sports? Who likes sun? Who wants to explore an exotic destination? Make a list of the things that mean the most to you, and compare notes. Marriage is going to call for lots of compromise, and this is the place to start.
3. Pick your destination. If you’re on a budget, keep in mind that many places adjust their rates seasonally. For instance, it’s cheaper to visit the Caribbean in warm weather, and ski resorts that offer a lot of activities (but no snow) in summer will also be less expensive.
4. Use a travel agent. It doesn’t cost any more, and he or she can make all the arrangements without you having to worry about them.
5. If you’re going abroad, leave plenty of time to make sure your passport is current, you have the visas needed. If inoculations are required, get them well before the wedding.
6. When you make reservations, let them know you’re honeymooning. People will want to please you (in the hope that you’ll return). You may get upgraded to a better room at no charge, receive a welcome bottle of champagne, and who knows what else.
7. Protect your privacy. This is especially important if you have a destination wedding, where the guests tend to hang around. A honeymoon is for the two of you, period. No kids, no pets, no company.
8. Take more money than you think you’ll need. (To make things uncomplicated, you may want to pre-pay for everything, or select a resort that offers an “all-inclusive” rate, which usually covers food, lodging, activities, drinks, transfers, tips, and more.)
9. Schedule time to do nothing at all. While it’s great to know you have plenty of options in terms of things to see and do, this is, after all, a honeymoon.
10. Be considerate of your spouse’s wishes. (My husband made me add this one.)
Linda asks…
Which place is more dangerous to go for a honeymoon?
Getting married in october, which place is more dangerous to visit? Jamaica or Mexico. Both places have all inclusive resorts. Just wondering if one place is more dangerous then the other. And can you give me your reasons and any websites?? Thanks a bunch!
Tijuana answers:
Jamaica has a higher crime rate I believe, however Mexico has a higher American kidnapping rate.
Now, seriously… There is no reason to think that you are going to be kidnapped or a victim of crime if you pay smart and safe.
Stay at your resort OR if you leave resort, then make sure to not wander off alone. Stay with people.
Just be smart… It is not necessarily any more dangerous there than it is in some US big cities, ok…? The danger is that you are NOT in the US… So some of your rights as a citizen are gone…
Just use your head… Read up on your destination from other travelers (tripadvisor.com is a good site to start, you can ask questions to travelers about their specific trips/resorts, etc).
And … All inclusive is the BEST way to go!!!
Best of luck to you !
I have been to Cancun with my daughter when she was 7 and felt completely safe even leaving the resort for activities.
My inlaws just got back from Jamaica, they felt totally safe… And my family and I have been all over the Caribbean … Antigua, St. Croix, etc…. Just use your head and be travel smart, you will have the time of your life!
OH, and be sure to let your credit card company know you are going or they might think your card was stolen when it is used repeatedly in Mexico, etc… (experience speaking!)
And LOL, I have NEVER Seen tarantulas ANywhere in the Caribbean…
Donald asks…
Where should my fiance and I go on our July honeymoon?
As of right now we are looking for an all inclusive, caribbean location. We are definitely wanting something with a white sandy beach and crystal clear waters where we can just relax and enjoy each other. We have been considering a Sandals resort in Jamaica, but we really need some advice on which resort to pick. Money is not too big of an issue, but we don’t want to go broke as soon as we’re married. Any help and advice would be GREATLY appreciated!
