Michael asks…

Has anyone been to Club Hotel Riu Jalisco in Mexico?

I am considering going to the Club Hotel Riu Jalisco in Nuevo Vallarta in Mexico. I have read mixed reviews and still can’t decide. I am going with my partner (no children) we are ages 38 (ish). We don’t do clubbing so nightlife isn’t that important, beach is important, love to sunbathe! I’m thinking of going middle of April. We have been to Mexico before but to Cancun, loved it, but would like to try a different resort. If anyone could help me decide I would be really grateful (or any suggestions for different locations).

I HAVE BEEN TO HOTEL RIU ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO AND IT WAS OK IT WAS ONLY A BIT FULL BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS VERY NICE I JUST GOT BACK LAST WEEK FROM VALLARTA WE STAYED AT THE VELAS VALARTA HOTEL AND IT WAS OK ALSO MY FAMILY OF 4 CHILDREN ME AND MY WIFE WE ALL FIT WELL IN A ONE BEDROOM SUITE . WE HAVE ALSO STAYED AT THE BARCELO LA JOLLA DE MISMALOYA (WWW.BARCELO.COM) IN VALLARTA AND I ENJOYED IT VERY MUCH BETTER THAN ANY HOTEL ITS VERYCALM AND AWAY FROM THE CITY I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL AND ITS ALL INCLUSIVE ALSO . I HAVE BEEN TO CANCUN AND TO PLAYA DEL CARMEN AND ITS OK DOWNTHERE ALSO . HOTEL RIU IS ABIT BIG AND THE ROOMS DONT FACE THE OCEAN AND AT THE JOLLA OF MISMALOYA EVERY ROOM HAS AN OCEAN VIEW THE ONLY DOWNSIDE OF THE JOLLA IS THAT THE BEACH IS A BIT SMALL BUT I WILL GUARANTEE YOU ENJOY ANY OF THESE HOTELS GOOD LUCK

Sharon asks…

Have you ever been to Cuba?

My fiance and I are planning our destination wedding and we are both very interested in going to Cuba. We are both very interested in history and culture, so we are looking for something more to offer then a resort and a beach although we will be staying at a resort. I am looking for the opinions of other people because since it is our wedding, we are inviting and will be expecting a lot of friends and family to be joining us and I don’t want to ask them to come to something they will not like. I would like to know when you went, where you stayed (resort and city), what you did while you were there and what you thought of all those things and places. Also, any restaurants or other places that are worth mentioning would also be nice. We will be meeting with a travel agent soon, but I will feel better about our decision if I have some personal opinions. Thank you so much in advance.

Tijuana answers:

I’ve been to Cuba several times (Havana, Varadero, Matanzas mostly), and think it’s a perfect wedding destination. I was actually looking at the Iberostar Laguna Azul in Varadero for my own wedding. Cuba is not like the DR or Mexico. There aren’t as many amenities, and it forces you to switch off and completely relax, as internet options are poor. I have stayed at the Blau Varadero 5 times, returning for my 6th time in April. I have also rented casa particulars on several occassions. Varadero is a great option because it does have the beach front, all inclusive, resorts, and is close enough to Havana to experience the culture the city has to offer. The majority of excursions are also offered out of Varadero.
Josone Park in Varadero is an excellent place to get your wedding photos done (aside from the beach), and you can rent any taxi off the street for a classic car background. Just ask the driver how much he’d want for an hour or so, and it shouldn’t be more than $40. If he asks for more than that, move on to the next car. There are several restaurants in Josone, Dante’s being my favourite.
Varadero also gives your guests to safely go out into town on their own, but has several establishmens that can cater to large groups in a moments notice.
Check out trip advisor for more reviews on resorts and establishments in any Cuban destination town. Congrats on the wedding!

Apple Vacations for Riviera Maya Cancun?

Hi, my family booked a weekend trip to Cancun through Apple Vacations using our travel agent. We booked the 6 golden apple level but we don’t know the hotel yet. I’m wary because online there are many mixed reviews saying there were flight, service, or hotel problems. What do you guys think of Apple Vacations? Has anyone been on one that went to Cancun? How are the resorts & what is usually included/featured in the resorts? And were your flights reliable & on time? Thank You!! (:

Tijuana answers:

As far as adult tour operators go, Apple is 100% the biggest and the best. Don’t worry. I own my own student tour company but still HIGHLY recommend Apple.

Remember online…people love to bitch & complain. You ARE going to Mexico…this is NOT the US…things move half as fast. If you go down with this in mind, you will be happy. Be patient. Did you get all inclusive? If you haven’t call back & change your reservation because that’s the ONLY way to go in Cancun.
