Tijuana Mexico Crime

Steven asks…

Did you know the first Yankee settled in Los Angeles until about 1820 ?

The new governor of California, Felipe de Neve, recommended to the viceroy in Mexico that the place suggested by Father Crespi as an ideal place for a mission be developed into a pueblo. King Carlos III of Spain in turn took the recommendation and ordered Governor de Neve to establish the pueblo.

De Neve took the job of establishing the settlement very seriously. He drew up plans for the pueblo, including a plaza, fields, pastures, and royal lands. This surely is the first time a city has been planned before the first settler arrived, and ironic in view of the unfettered growth of Los Angeles.

Persuading settlers to come here from Mexico was another matter. In spite of many inducements, such as money and land, it took months before he was able to get enough settlers, and he had to go to Sonora to get them.

Finally, a group of 11 men, 11 women, and 22 children were gathered together at the Mission San Gabriel. On September 4, 1781, they left San Gabriel, accompanied by de Neve, soldiers, mission priests, and a few Indians to settle the site along the river.

There was a speech by Governor de Neve, a blessing and prayers from the mission fathers — all watched by the Yang-Na Indians. Thus did El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula (The Town of Our Lady the Queen of the Angeles of Porciuncula) come into existence. (For more information on how L.A. got its name, check here.)

The new pueblo grew slowly, and amenities were few. The houses were very small, usually of adobe with flat roofs — glassless windows, and rawhide doors. The narrow streets were almost impassable when it rained. There were, of course, no sidewalks or lawns, and the trees along the river rapidly disappeared.

By 1790 Los Angeles had 28 households and a population of 139. By 1800 the population was 70 households and a population of 315. There were also a town hall, guardhouse, army barracks, and granaries.

This Spanish town neither knew nor cared that the United States had been born and was already moving relentlessly across the continent. The first Yankee settler did not arrive until about 1820.

Like los angeles aint a freekin suburb of tijuana now…???? Whats your point…???? Just look at the filth, disease, homeless and crime…just like the mexican side of the border…you should be thankful america even wants to put money into this rat hole…and the others like it along the border…and for your information…when the “gringos” settled there, the standard of living shot up, and the wealth of the people living there went up…until the illegals started pouring in….now it constantly goes down, is a drain on the welfare system, takes more money from the gov’t than it gives….goes to prove, that anglos can make something work, while mexicans cant…..

Chris asks…

tijuana mexico border question!!?

BACKGROUND: im driving from lake forest, ca (which is in southern ornage county, a couple hours from the border). im driving to tijuana, mexico.
i am meeting someone right on the other side of the border, “in downtown tijuana“. i know there are 2 entrances to the border, which freeway am i taking to end up in the correct border entrance (the one that turns into “downtown tijuana” on the other side). take the 5 south straight down til i hit the border? or take the 5 to the 805 straight til i hit THAT border entrance? i dont have an address to mapquest, i want to know which entrance ends up in downtown tj, the other leads to another side of tj. THANKS!

Tijuana answers:

I live in Orange County but I lived in San Diego off the 805 for many years. You have to get the 5 freeway to interstate 805 and this will take you straight into Tijuana to your designated area. Be very very careful! The crime is very bad there. Lock your doors and look very confident and beware of your surroundings. Do not talk to anyone. Make sure you tell us how it went and if you returned safely.

P.S. If I were you, I would stay on the US side, there is a parking lot there where you can wait for them safely. If they can not enter the US due to citizenship, tell them to meet you as close as they can to the border. Tell your family and friends what you are doing.

Sharon asks…

is it easy to find brass knuckles in Tijuana Mexico?

Tijuana answers:

1. There is no reason for a law-abiding person to have brass knuckles–the sole purpose of which is to inflict painful and potentially disfiguring injuries on a person.

2. If you get caught with brass knuckles in America or Canada when you return home, you will be arrested and charged. They X-ray checked baggage, and you WILL get caught. God help you if you get caught with brass knuckles in Taiwan, where I live.

I will answer many questions on YA, but I will never help anyone to break the law–especially where violent crime is concerned.
