Tijuana Mexico Map

David asks…

What’s near San Diego besides Tijuana?

I’m taking a trip to San Diego this spring and wanted to spend a few days exploring Mexico. I know Tijuana is a total tourist trap and would like to avoid it. Is there anything interesting to do or see in the surrounding area that is a reasonable drive away?

Tijuana answers:

Check the map and take the state highways to Tecate. Nice small town. They have the big Tecate Brewery there and you can take a tour, get a free glass of cold Tecate beer, walk to the plaza.
Then, a block away is McDonald’s. Take that highway south to Ensenada through the hills and wine country.
You can return along the coast through Rosarita to TJ or come back the same way to Tecate.
You might try asking on a great website for Baja.

Donna asks…

Tijuana, Rosarito, or Ensenada Vacation?

My husband is currently stationed in Twentynine Palms, CA on the Marine Corps Base. We’re from the east coast and want to take advantage of exploring the west while we’re here. We plan on doing several 2 to 4 day mini vacations this summer and I’d love to see Mexico while we’re so close. Looking at the map, it seems like Tijuana, Rosarito, and Ensenada are within reasonable driving distance (4.5 hours or less). Which of these would be best for a 20 year old couple with no kids? Least crime and best appearance are our main interests. Looking for a clean beach and a decent nightlife. Any other suggestions of cities within 5 hours of zip code 92278 are also appreciated, whether in Mexico or just a good place to vacation in California. Thanks 🙂

Tijuana answers:

Ensenada is beautiful. It is more of a touristic town so its safer. There are plenty of things to do there. There is a large flea market on the weekends called los Globos, You can find anything there! There is also the Buffadora, A blow hole, its quite a sight. And you can get some really good sea food, since your by the beach. The Oceans in Ensenada are also way better than Tijuana, or rosarito. Of course the best night life is in Tijuana, but you would be amazed at how many people would love to have you in there Nightclubs. But if you are going on appearance and safety Ensenada is The best choice. If you have any other question feel free to ask i live in Tijuana!
