William asks…

What are some good places/towns near Tijuana for college kids to go for spring break?

Also, what’s the best way to get from the bus terminal in Tijuana to Rosarito? Are there any buses/shuttles that run down there or are we better off taking a cab?

Tijuana answers:

Just a heads up, you might want to be extra careful going to Mexico. There’s been a lot of crazy drug trafficking stuff going on. Here’s some artcles for your own reference:

If you still decide to go. I used the shuttle system when I went a couple summer ago with a few friends. It seemed pretty reliable and it was convenient

Assuming you don’t accidentally get shot, knifed, kidnapped, or a body part severed from all the drug war violence that has been going on there. Don’t you read or watch the news?

State Department issues Mexico travel advisory:
(04-05-2009)
“Recent Mexican army and police confrontations with drug cartels have resembled small-unit combat, with cartels employing automatic weapons and grenades,” the advisory says. “Large firefights have taken place in many towns and cities across Mexico but most recently in northern Mexico, including Tijuana, Chihuahua City and Ciudad Juarez. During some of these incidents, U.S. Citizens have been trapped and temporarily prevented from leaving the area.”

The language used to describe the situation in Mexico is strong. “While most crime victims are Mexican citizens, the uncertain security situation poses serious risks for U.S. Citizens as well,” the alert says.

“Robberies, homicides, petty thefts and carjackings have all increased over the last year across Mexico generally, with notable spikes in Tijuana and northern Baja California. Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana and Nogales are among the cities which have recently experienced public shootouts during daylight … In shopping centers and other public venues.”

Carol asks…

PLEASE ANSWER>>>>What is going on with traveling to Mexico for Vacation?

Like Cuncun, or where are the News talking about? I heard the news last night about the drugs and Kid napping in mexico, so some travel agencies were re-routing people going to mexico for Spring Break.

Is it bad to go to mexico this year or something??? Im suppose to got to cancun in june.

Tijuana answers:

Look i live in Tijuana Mexico. Nothing is gong on. If there are “drug wars” its between them. They wont hurt you. Ive lived in Mexico all my life. Its normal. Its like the issue in Alabama (not sure is alabama) A white guy shot 10 people, then killed himself. Mexicans are corrupt, but will not kill an innocent person. Theu drug deals are between them. Dont worry. You are OK if you go to Cancun. Just stay in the tourist areas, dont talk to strangers, and dont show off your “expensive” items such as purses, shoes, ect…
But dont worry. You will be just fine. Have a blast. The U.S has more crazy people. =]

thank you

John asks…

Do I Need A Passport To Go And Come To Tijuana Baja California?

Im planning to travel in 2-1-08 to tijuana baja california, mexico and i want to know if i need a passport to go and come back to the united states

Tijuana answers:

Currently, the State Department says that border-crossers will need to have some proof of U.S. Citizenship/residency as of Jan. 31, 2008, to cross land border entry points. If you don’t have a passport, take your birth certificate (assuming you were born in the U.S.).
A lot of people are complaining that this will cause huge problems at the border, so the State Department might (just my opinion) postpone the rule. Keep an eye out for news on this as you approach your travel date.

But just in case, make sure you have a copy of your birth certificate (a certified copy would be best), and a government-issued photo ID.

Laura asks…

What cities in Mexico are affected by the current 2009 riots?

My parents are going in April end for my dads 50th birthday to Mexico.. they are taking the cruise from LA and I wanted to know what cities in Mexico are affected by the current riots. Thanks in advance

Tijuana answers:

Lol there are no riots in Mexico.

Mexico is safe, the only areas you should avoid are the border towns ( Tijuana, Juarez, Nuevo Laredo, etc.)

The center and south of the country are very safe
Don’t believe the lies and Bull C.. That you hear on Faux News
