Mexico National Team

Ruth asks…

Why Mexico’s national Team Sub-20 is the greatest favorite to win World Cup 2007?

They are playing better than any one else!
Mexico is the best team Sub-20!

Tijuana answers:

I agree with you that Mexico has a very large chance of being the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup champions, but we must all look at the upcoming challenges they will face.

The first (and most likely the most significant factor), is the fact that they will have to play one of the best teams still in the tournament, Argentina. Both Mexico, and Argentina have been having EXTREMELY good tournaments. I expect a very exciting game!

If Mexico manages to beat Argentina, they will have to face either face a very nice Chilean side, or Nigeria. Don’t expect an easy ride there. Both have had an excellent tournament, and either one will be a formidable opponent!

If Mexico manage to reach the final, they will either have to face a tough Austrian or Czech side! Both have managed to defeat a tournament favorite (USA and Spain), so they are not to be taken lightly. Expect nothing less than a hard fought win.

I myself believe that Mexico can win this cup. They have a great side, and excellent young players. I wish them the best of luck, and to bring the cup back to CONCACAF. Good luck Mexico, good luck!

Donald asks…

Do you think the US national team can beat Mexico’s national team?

Tijuana answers:

The US can absolutely beat MEX and they can do it with somewhat consistent results. Here are the head to head stats of the last several years (last 12 matches) to further back my point:

Oct. 25, 2000 Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, California United StatesFriendly United States 2-0
Feb. 28, 2001 Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio, United States2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier United States 2-0
July 1, 2001 Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, Mexico2002 FIFA World Cup qualifier Mexico 1-0
April 3, 2002 INVESCO Field at Mile High, Denver, Colorado, United StatesFriendly United States 1-0
June 17, 2002 Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonju, South Korea2002 FIFA World Cup Round of 16 United States 2-0
May 8, 2003 Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas, United StatesFriendly0-0
April 28, 2004 Cotton Bowl, Dallas, Texas, United StatesFriendly United States 1-0
March 27, 2005 Estadio Azteca, Mexico City, Mexico2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier Mexico 2-1
Sept. 3, 2005 Columbus Crew Stadium, Columbus, Ohio, United States2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier United States 2-0
Feb. 7, 2007 University of Phoenix Stadium, Glendale, Arizona, United StatesFriendly United States 2-0
June 24, 2007 Soldier Field, Chicago, Illinois, United States2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup final United States 2-1
Feb. 6, 2008 Reliant Stadium, Houston, Texas, United StatesFriendly2-2

The bottom line is this: Fans talk s*** from both sides, because this is a serious and true rivalry with politics and history with a lot of pride at stake every time it is played. But in the end people can lie but the numbers NEVER lie.

Last 12 meetings US 8 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses to MEX. From October 2000- until now.

With fairness to MEX fans (and because i live in AZ) before 2000 MEX beat US Many times over throughout the years, but in recent times that has not been the case.
In MEX they have more then a fair chance to win or at least draw at Estadio Azteca every time we play there. They have a good and solid team but let’s face it. They have not been consistent at all in these WC qualifiers and recently lost to an uprising Jamaica team. But they have missing pieces, like no real striker at this point and s new coaching regime so it will take some time for the improvement to kick in. The US is the new team to look out for with more then solid defenders and keeper, good midfield, and even with a on and off offense, can score from several angles. I am flying to wherever this next game is played i am thrilled to see this one, it’s going to be awesome.

Hope I helped a little!!
